• [bbe] Saying, See, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man will be given up to the chief priests and the scribes; and they will give an order for his death, and will give him up to the Gentiles:

• [kjv] And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.
• [bbe] And they will make sport of him, and put shame on him, and give him cruel blows, and will put him to death; and after three days he will come back from the dead.

• [kjv] And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, come unto him, saying, Master, we would that thou shouldest do for us whatsoever we shall desire.
• [bbe] And there came to him James and John, the sons of Zebedee, saying to him, Master, will you give us whatever may be our request?

• [kjv] They said unto him, Grant unto us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left hand, in thy glory.

• [kjv] But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask: can ye drink of the cup that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?
• [bbe] But Jesus said to them, You have no knowledge of what you are saying. Are you able to take of my cup? or to undergo the baptism which I am to undergo?

• [kjv] And they said unto him, We can. And Jesus said unto them, Ye shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized:
• [bbe] And they said to him, We are able. And Jesus said to them, You will take of the cup from which I take; and the baptism which I am about to undergo you will undergo:

• [kjv] But to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give; but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared.
• [bbe] But to be seated at my right hand or at my left is not for me to give: but it is for those for whom it has been made ready.

• [kjv] And when the ten heard it, they began to be much displeased with James and John.
• [bbe] And hearing this, the ten became very angry with James and John.

• [bbe] And they came to Jericho: and when he was going out of Jericho, with his disciples and a great number of people, the son of Timaeus, Bartimaeus, a blind man, was seated by the wayside, with his hand out for money.

• [bbe] And some of them, turning in protest, gave him an order to be quiet: but he went on crying out all the more, Son of David, have mercy on me.

• [bbe] And he, putting off his coat, got up quickly, and came to Jesus.

• [kjv] And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.
• [bbe] And Jesus said to him, What would you have me do to you? And the blind man said, Master, make me able to see.

• [kjv] And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.
• [bbe] And Jesus said to him, Go on your way; your faith has made you well. And straight away he was able to see, and went after him in the way.

• [kjv] Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
• [bbe] Let there be no thought that I have come to put an end to the law or the prophets. I have not come for destruction, but to make complete.

• [kjv] Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
• [bbe] Happy are the peacemakers: for they will be named sons of God.

• [kjv] Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
• [bbe] Happy are those who are attacked on account of righteousness: for the kingdom of heaven will be theirs.

• [kjv] Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
• [bbe] Happy are you when men give you a bad name, and are cruel to you, and say all evil things against you falsely, because of me.

• [kjv] Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
• [bbe] Be glad and full of joy; for great is your reward in heaven: for so were the prophets attacked who were before you.

• [kjv] Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
• [bbe] You are the salt of the earth; but if its taste goes from the salt, how will you make it salt again? it is then good for nothing but to be put out and crushed under foot by men.

• [kjv] Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

• [bbe] You are the light of the world. A town put on a hill may be seen by all.

• [kjv] Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
• [bbe] And a burning light is not put under a vessel, but on its table; so that its rays may be shining on all who are in the house.

• [kjv] Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
• [bbe] Even so let your light be shining before men, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

• [kjv] Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
• [bbe] Let there be no thought that I have come to put an end to the law or the prophets. I have not come for destruction, but to make complete.

• [kjv] For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
• [bbe] Truly I say to you, Till heaven and earth come to an end, not the smallest letter or part of a letter will in any way be taken from the law, till all things are done.

• [kjv] Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
• [bbe] Whoever then goes against the smallest of these laws, teaching men to do the same, will be named least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who keeps the laws, teaching others to keep them, will be named great in the kingdom of heaven.

• [kjv] For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
• [bbe] For I say to you, If your righteousness is not greater than the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never go into the kingdom of heaven.

• [kjv] Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
• [bbe] You have knowledge that it was said in old times, You may not put to death; and, Whoever puts to death will be in danger of being judged:

• [kjv] But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
• [bbe] But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be in danger of being judged; and he who says to his brother, Raca, will be in danger from the Sanhedrin; and whoever says, You foolish one, will be in danger of the hell of fire.

• [kjv] Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;
• [bbe] If then you are making an offering at the altar and there it comes to your mind that your brother has something against you,

• [kjv] Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
• [bbe] While your offering is still before the altar, first go and make peace with your brother, then come and make your offering.

• [kjv] Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.
• [bbe] Come to an agreement quickly with him who has a cause against you at law, while you are with him on the way, for fear that he may give you up to the judge and the judge may give you to the police and you may be put into prison.

• [kjv] Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.
• [bbe] Truly I say to you, You will not come out from there till you have made payment of the very last farthing.

• [kjv] Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
• [bbe] You have knowledge that it was said, You may not have connection with another man's wife:

• [kjv] But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
• [bbe] But I say to you that everyone whose eyes are turned on a woman with desire has had connection with her in his heart.

• [kjv] And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
• [bbe] And if your right eye is a cause of trouble to you, take it out and put it away from you; because it is better to undergo the loss of one part, than for all your body to go into hell.

• [kjv] And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
• [bbe] And if your right hand is a cause of trouble to you, let it be cut off and put it away from you; because it is better to undergo the loss of one part, than for all your body to go into hell.

• [kjv] It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:
• [bbe] Again, it was said, Whoever puts away his wife has to give her a statement in writing for this purpose:

• [kjv] But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.
• [bbe] But I say to you that everyone who puts away his wife for any other cause but the loss of her virtue, makes her false to her husband; and whoever takes her as his wife after she is put away, is no true husband to her.

• [kjv] Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:
• [bbe] Again, you have knowledge that it was said in old times, Do not take false oaths, but give effect to your oaths to the Lord:

• [kjv] But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:
• [bbe] But I say to you, Take no oaths at all: not by the heaven, because it is the seat of God;

• [kjv] Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.
• [bbe] Or by the earth, because it is the resting-place for his foot; or by Jerusalem, because it is the town of the great King.

• [kjv] Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.
• [bbe] You may not take an oath by your head, because you are not able to make one hair white or black.

• [kjv] But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
• [bbe] But let your words be simply, Yes or No: and whatever is more than these is of the Evil One.

• [kjv] Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
• [bbe] You have knowledge that it was said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:

• [kjv] But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
• [bbe] But I say to you, Do not make use of force against an evil man; but to him who gives you a blow on the right side of your face let the left be turned.

• [kjv] And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.
• [bbe] And if any man goes to law with you and takes away your coat, do not keep back your robe from him.

• [kjv] And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
• [bbe] And whoever makes you go one mile, go with him two.

• [kjv] Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
• [bbe] Give to him who comes with a request, and keep not your property from him who would for a time make use of it.

• [kjv] Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
• [bbe] You have knowledge that it was said, Have love for your neighbour, and hate for him who is against you:

• [kjv] But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
• [bbe] But I say to you, Have love for those who are against you, and make prayer for those who are cruel to you;

• [kjv] That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
• [bbe] So that you may be the sons of your Father in heaven; for his sun gives light to the evil and to the good, and he sends rain on the upright man and on the sinner.

• [kjv] For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
• [bbe] For if you have love for those who have love for you, what credit is it to you? do not the tax-farmers the same?

• [kjv] And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
• [bbe] And if you say, Good day, to your brothers only, what do you do more than others? do not even the Gentiles the same?

• [kjv] Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
• [bbe] Be then complete in righteousness, even as your Father in heaven is complete.

• [kjv] But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
  
• [bbe] But to you who give worship to my name, the sun of righteousness will come up with new life in its wings; and you will go out, playing like young oxen full of food.

• [kjv] For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.
• [bbe] For see, the day is coming, it is burning like an oven; all the men of pride and all who do evil will be dry stems of grass: and in the day which is coming they will be burned up, says the Lord of armies, till they have not a root or a branch.

• [kjv] But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
• [bbe] But to you who give worship to my name, the sun of righteousness will come up with new life in its wings; and you will go out, playing like young oxen full of food.

• [kjv] And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts.
• [bbe] And the evil-doers will be crushed under you, they will be dust under your feet, in the day when I do my work, says the Lord of armies.

• [kjv] Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.
• [bbe] Keep in mind the law of Moses, my servant, which I gave him in Horeb for all Israel, even the rules and the decisions.

• [kjv] Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:
• [bbe] See, I am sending you Elijah the prophet before the day of the Lord comes, that great day, greatly to be feared.

• [kjv] And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.
• [bbe] And by him the hearts of fathers will be turned to their children, and the hearts of children to their fathers; for fear that I may come and put the earth under a curse.

Zechariah 9

• [bbe] See, the Lord will take away her heritage, overturning her power in the sea; and she will be burned up with fire.

• [kjv] Ashkelon shall see it, and fear; Gaza also shall see it, and be very sorrowful, and Ekron; for her expectation shall be ashamed; and the king shall perish from Gaza, and Ashkelon shall not be inhabited.
• [bbe] Ashkelon will see it with fear, and Gaza, bent with pain; and Ekron, for her hope will be shamed: and the king will be cut off from Gaza, and Ashkelon will be unpeopled.

• [kjv] And a bastard shall dwell in Ashdod, and I will cut off the pride of the Philistines.
• [bbe] And a mixed people will be living in Ashdod, and I will have the pride of the Philistines cut off.

• [kjv] And I will take away his blood out of his mouth, and his abominations from between his teeth: but he that remaineth, even he, shall be for our God, and he shall be as a governor in Judah, and Ekron as a Jebusite.
• [bbe] And I will take away his blood from his mouth, and his disgusting things from between his teeth; and some of his people will be kept for our God: and he will be as a family in Judah, and Ekron as one living in Jerusalem.

• [kjv] And I will encamp about mine house because of the army, because of him that passeth by, and because of him that returneth: and no oppressor shall pass through them any more: for now have I seen with mine eyes.
• [bbe] And I will put my forces in position round my house, so that there may be no coming and going: and no cruel master will again go through them: for now I have seen his trouble.

• [kjv] As for thee also, by the blood of thy covenant I have sent forth thy prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water.
• [bbe] And as for you, because of the blood of your agreement, I have sent out your prisoners from the deep hole in which there is no water.

• [kjv] Turn you to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope: even to day do I declare that I will render double unto thee;
• [bbe] And they will come back to you, O daughter of Zion, as prisoners of hope: today I say to you that I will give you back twice as much;

• [bbe] For I have made Judah a bow bent for my use, I have made Ephraim the arrows of the bow; I will make your sons, O Zion, take up arms against your sons, O Greece, and will make you like the sword of a man of war.

• [bbe] And the Lord their God will be their saviour in that day, giving them food like the flock of his people: for they will be like the jewels of a crown shining over his land.

• [kjv] For how great is his goodness, and how great is his beauty! corn shall make the young men cheerful, and new wine the maids.
• [bbe] For how good it is and how beautiful! grain will make the young men strong and new wine the virgins.

• [kjv] Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste?
• [bbe] Is it a time for you to be living in roofed houses while this house is a waste?

• [kjv] Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste?
• [bbe] Is it a time for you to be living in roofed houses while this house is a waste?

• [kjv] Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.
• [bbe] For this cause the Lord of armies has said, Give thought to your ways.

• [kjv] Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.
• [bbe] Much has been planted, but little got in; you take food, but have not enough; you take drink, but are not full; you are clothed, but no one is warm; and he who gets payment for his work, gets it to put it into a bag full of holes.

• [kjv] Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.
• [bbe] This is what the Lord of armies has said: Give thought to your ways.

• [kjv] Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD.
• [bbe] Go up to the hills and get wood and put up the house; and I will take pleasure in it and be honoured, says the Lord.

• [kjv] Ye looked for much, and lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house.
• [bbe] You were looking for much, and it came to little; and when you got it into your house, I took it away with a breath. Why? says the Lord of armies. Because of my house which is a waste, while every man takes care of the house which is his.

• [kjv] Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit.
• [bbe] For this cause the heaven over you is kept from giving dew, and the earth from giving her fruit.

• [kjv] And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.
• [bbe] And by my order no rain came on the land or on the mountains or the grain or the wine or the oil or the produce of the earth or on men or cattle or on any work of man's hands.

• [kjv] Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him, and the people did fear before the LORD.

• [bbe] And the spirit of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, ruler of Judah, was moved by the Lord, as was the spirit of Joshua, the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the rest of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the Lord of armies, their God.

• [kjv] In the four and twentieth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.
• [bbe] On the twenty-fourth day of the month, in the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.

• [bbe] Make search for the Lord, all you quiet ones of the earth, who have done what is right in his eyes; make search for righteousness and a quiet heart: it may be that you will be safely covered in the day of the Lord's wrath.

• [kjv] Gather yourselves together, yea, gather together, O nation not desired;
• [bbe] Come together, make everyone come together, O nation without shame;

• [kjv] Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the LORD's anger.
• [bbe] Make search for the Lord, all you quiet ones of the earth, who have done what is right in his eyes; make search for righteousness and a quiet heart: it may be that you will be safely covered in the day of the Lord's wrath.

• [kjv] For Gaza shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolation: they shall drive out Ashdod at the noon day, and Ekron shall be rooted up.
• [bbe] For Gaza will be given up and Ashkelon will become waste: they will send Ashdod out in the middle of the day, and Ekron will be uprooted.

• [kjv] Woe unto the inhabitants of the sea coast, the nation of the Cherethites! the word of the LORD is against you; O Canaan, the land of the Philistines, I will even destroy thee, that there shall be no inhabitant.
• [bbe] Sorrow to the people living by the sea, the nation of the Cherethites! The word of the Lord is against you, O Canaan, the land of the Philistines; I will send destruction on you till there is no one living in you.

• [kjv] And the sea coast shall be dwellings and cottages for shepherds, and folds for flocks.
• [bbe] And the land by the sea will be grass-land, with houses for keepers of sheep and walled places for flocks.

• [kjv] And the coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed thereupon: in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening: for the LORD their God shall visit them, and turn away their captivity.
• [bbe] The land by the sea will be for the rest of the children of Judah; by the sea they will give their flocks food: in the houses of Ashkelon they will take their rest in the evening; for the Lord their God will take them in hand and their fate will be changed.

• [kjv] I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the revilings of the children of Ammon, whereby they have reproached my people, and magnified themselves against their border.
• [bbe] My ears have been open to the bitter words of Moab and the words of shame of the children of Ammon, which they have said against my people, lifting themselves up against the limit of their land.

• [kjv] Therefore as I live, saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, even the breeding of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall spoil them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them.
• [bbe] For this cause, by my life, says the Lord of armies, the God of Israel, truly Moab will become like Sodom and the children of Ammon like Gomorrah, given up to waste plants and salt pools and unpeopled for ever: the rest of my people will take their property, the overflow of my nation will take their heritage.

• [kjv] This shall they have for their pride, because they have reproached and magnified themselves against the people of the LORD of hosts.
• [bbe] This will be their fate because of their pride, because they have said evil, lifting themselves up against the people of the Lord of armies.

• [kjv] And flocks shall lie down in the midst of her, all the beasts of the nations: both the cormorant and the bittern shall lodge in the upper lintels of it; their voice shall sing in the windows; desolation shall be in the thresholds: for he shall uncover the cedar work.
• [bbe] And herds will take their rest in the middle of her, all the beasts of the valley: the pelican and the porcupine will make their living-places on the tops of its pillars; the owl will be crying in the window; the raven will be seen on the doorstep.

• [kjv] This is the rejoicing city that dwelt carelessly, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none beside me: how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! every one that passeth by her shall hiss, and wag his hand.

• [kjv] Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
